Courses in Your Area

REMEMBER to complete your mandatory continuing education requirements before you submit your license renewal form. The current cycle runs from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2017. You need to complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education every two years in approved subject areas. Dental hygienists who are registered as Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioners must complete 5 of these hours in public health coursework, and hygienists who have local anesthesia certification must complete 3 hours of their coursework in local anesthesia topics. For more information on continuing education in PA, go to the PA State Board of Dentistry website at: www.dos.state.pa.us/dent. Click on Rules and Regulations, then click on Continuing Dental Education. DO NOT assume that a course is an approved subject area simply because it is being offered by an approved program sponsor. Because of this, it is suggested you get above the 20 hours recommended. The State Board of Dentistry conducts random audits to verify your credits. “Academy Approval” indicates that a continuing education course appears to meet selected criteria. It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if a particular course is acceptable for license renewal. However, applicants should be aware that not all courses offered and approved by the Academy of Dental Hygiene Studies are approved for Continuing Education credits by the State Board of Dentistry. The Academy does not endorse or recommend any individual continuing education course and is not accountable for the quality of any course content. Certificates of Attendance should be retained by licensees in their own personal professional file. During the course of its operations and advertisement for CE Courses, the PDHA and its components will not sell or distribute, or in any other way disseminate those email addresses or home addresses to third parties. Local Components and the PDHA will not use those email addresses and home addresses except for PDHA and Local Component communication purposes as agreed to by the Executive Committee of the Local Component and the PDHA Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.
