REMEMBER to complete your mandatory continuing education requirements before you submit your license renewal form. The current cycle runs from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2019.

Current Continuing Education Requirements:
Dental Hygiene License (RDH)
• 20 continuing education credits
• 10 must be live (Webinar will count if it is live streamed)
• 10 can be obtained from online sources
• 2 of these credits must be in child abuse and can be obtain from a preapproved source

• Every 4 years a 2 hour course must be completed in comprehensive radiology.  This should be approved by The Department of Environmental Protection

Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner License (PHDHP)
• All Above Dental Hygiene License CE Requirements
– 5 credit hours of the 20 must be in a public health related field
– the child abuse credit hours count towards this requirement

Local Anesthesia License
• Above Dental Hygiene License CE Requirements
– 3 credit hours in local anesthesia update or pharmacology

GO TO THE SOURCE: Email: st-dentistry@state.pa.us and request a copy of the Title 49: Professional and Vocational Standards, Chapter 33: State Board of Dentistry – or go online to http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/049/chapter33/chap33toc.html and view the regulations online.

The state board of dentistry reserves the right to challenge the validity of all CE courses. It is recommended to obtain more than the 20 credit hours.

Need a copy of a continuing education certificate? All the CE records that are approved by Pennsylvania Academy of Dental Hygiene Studies are available for you. They are available under the “sessions attended” tab on your Member page.  Click HERE to log in to your Member Profile page.

Did you know? The PDHA recommends that all hygienists keep proof of their CE certificates for the previous TWO renewal periods. The State Board of Dentistry can audit dental professionals for FOUR years prior to the current licensure period.

Any further questions please contact Government Relations Chair, Laura DeHennis at LAURADEH@yahoo.com

DO NOT assume that a course is an approved subject area simply because it is being offered by an approved program sponsor. Because of this, it is suggested you get above the 20 hours recommended. The State Board of Dentistry conducts random audits to verify your credits. “Academy Approval” indicates that a continuing education course appears to meet selected criteria. It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if a particular course is acceptable for license renewal. However, applicants should be aware that not all courses offered and approved by the Academy of Dental Hygiene Studies are approved for Continuing Education credits by the State Board of Dentistry. The Academy does not endorse or recommend any individual continuing education course and is not accountable for the quality of any course content. Certificates of Attendance should be retained by licensees in their own personal professional file. During the course of its operations and advertisement for CE Courses, the PDHA and its components will not sell or distribute, or in any other way disseminate those email addresses or home addresses to third parties. Local Components and the PDHA will not use those email addresses and home addresses except for PDHA and Local Component communication purposes as agreed to by the Executive Committee of the Local Component and the PDHA Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.

If you have attended a Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance Act 31 course, you must log onto training.pa-fsa.org and fill out the Act 31 Credits form to register your attendance.  Click on the Act 31 button and fill out the demographic form, as you were instructed to do at your course.  You must complete the form in order for the state board to be notified.
